We’re proud to announce that Chris Clawson, our company president, was named a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2013 program in the Midwest. The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
“This recognition is a reflection of our company’s resurgence in not only executive leadership, but also industry leadership,” Chris said of his award. “By pioneering game-changing new products like Synrgy360 and new advancements in technology like LFopen and our Discover Tablet Consoles, Life Fitness has signaled a new fitness era of personalization and connectivity.”
The Personal Trainers to Watch judges have poured over applications from around the world and have chosen this year’s top 20 semi-finalists. These personal trainers have the chance to be named as one of 10 finalists and the best of the best will be named the 2012 Personal Trainer to Watch by Life Fitness and FitPro North America.
Narrowing it down to 20 was not an easy decision. This year’s pool of nominations was outstanding and we thank all those who applied. Personal trainers have an opportunity to truly change lives through their career, and so many of our applicants are doing just that.

Personal training is about providing expertise, building relationships and giving support. It’s also about building a business. Social media is a tool that can help trainers accomplish all of those goals. I’m sure if you polled your clients, you would find that almost all are active on at least one social media channel, if not many. Just as important is the number of potential clients on social media.
Platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube can be great channels for connection and marketing, but only if used in the right way. Whether you’re just considering utilizing social media or have been for a while, keep these tips in mind:
Let’s admit it – one of the best parts about running on a treadmill or sweating it out on the elliptical is getting to watch some of your favorite TV at the same time. But, not just any show will do for a great workout, so I bring to you my Top Ten TV Shows to Workout To:
1. Survivor – The ultimate workout motivation? Knowing I would be the one to survive on a deserted island.
2. Biggest Loser – For obvious reasons.
3. CSI: Miami – The awesome action scenes in a city with a year-round bikini season will definitely motivate.
In honor of Earth Day we’ve compiled some fun green fitness facts that are sure to get you thinking about how you can make your workouts a little more green.
Green Fitness by the Numbers:
185: Number of times one year’s worth of the world’s used plastic water bottles could circle the globe.
3.6: Megawatts of electricity that a group cycling class with 20 bikes can produce a year. That’s enough power to light 72 homes for a month.
The 2012 Olympic Games are quickly approaching and here at Life Fitness, we’re getting excited to watch top athletes compete on the world’s largest stage. My favorite summer Olympic sport has always been gymnastics. Gymnasts train diligently and have the rock-hard bodies to prove it. Requiring balance, strength, speed and rhythm, it is of the most challenging sports you’ll see at the games.
If you’ve been on Pinterest you’ve probably seen some tantalizing pictures of recipes made with impossibly healthy ingredients. Can it be true? Do those recipes taste as good as they look? Our team wanted to find out, so we tested out a recipe for chocolate chip cookies that has NO BUTTER. The secret ingredient: the buttery and delicious super-food, avocado. A big thanks to Natalie over at Deconstructing the Home for the recipe.
I Instagrammed the entire process and as a notoriously horrible baker, I’m proud to say I only made one mistake. While they didn’t look as beautiful as the one’s from Natalie’s blog, they definitely passed the taste test.

Here at Life Fitness we’ve seen a dangerous trend developing around the world that is a serious threat to public safety: texting and running.
At gyms all over the world text – tweet – and email-addicts are glued to their phones while running at a steady 5.2 mph on the treadmill. It’s multi-tasking spiraling out of control. Maybe you’re that person.
I’ll admit that a near brush with death while answering an email mid-stride was the inspiration for this post.
Lauren thought she was cool, invincible and well-coordinated.
Life Fitness is excited to join fitness gaming app SoFit in an effort to raise $10,000 in support of Augie’s Quest and its mission to find a cure for ALS. SoFit is a fitness tracking and rewards app that also has a built-in charity tool which allows users to “run-raise” money for important causes.
We need the support from the entire fitness community to reach our goal. This is where you come in. For every mile logged on the SoFit app for Augie’s Quest, SoFit will be donating one dollar (up to $5,000) from now through March 21st. Life Fitness will be matching that donation in honor of our co-founder Augie Nieto, Augie’s Quest inspiration and driving force. It’s as easy as that – nothing else for you to do but download the app and get walking or running.
