SCHILLER PARK, Ill. April 30, 2009 – Twenty-nine years of lifting heavy packages as a parcel driver, left Creston, Iowa, resident Robert Kendrick with back injuries that prevented him from doing much of anything. He tried everything to rid himself of the pain–from prescription drugs to epidural shots – but nothing seemed to work. Finally, after following intense physical therapy, he was able to return to work at the age of 62, but his body wasn't ready for the rigors of his profession.

"I had a very physically demanding route and by early afternoon, my energy was completely depleted," said Kendrick. "I knew I needed to find a program that would allow me to have more energy, and help me to reach my goal of retiring in good health."

After researching different exercise options, Kendrick decided to purchase exercise equipment for his home. Today, Kendrick works out five times a week on his new elliptical cross-trainer and home gym system from Life Fitness.

"Everything considered, I feel 10 to 15 years younger, and I look it too," said Kendrick. "My job has become much easier, and my life has become much more enjoyable."

As a result of his story Kendrick was recognized by Life Fitness and was awarded as a finalist in the company's annual "I Live It!" campaign. This program celebrates individuals who demonstrate a commitment to lifelong health and well-being.

"Robert's motivation for making the commitment to lifelong fitness is one that we felt deserved to be recognized," said John Stransky, president of Life Fitness. "He has utilized fitness as a tool to make his everyday life easier and more enjoyable."

Life Fitness is currently accepting applications for the 2009 "I Live It!" contest.
