The luxury retirement village gyms will include products from Life Fitness, Cybex and SCIFIT
11 October, 2017 – Life Fitness has won the contract to supply fitness equipment to Richmond Villages, an award-winning operator of luxury retirement villages.
Part of leading healthcare provider Bupa, Richmond Villages manages seven – soon to be eight - facilities nationwide, offering a combination of independent and assisted living to individuals aged over 55. As part of the agreement, Life Fitness has already installed at sites in Witney and Aston-on-Trent, with plans to extend the partnership to existing and new villages ongoing.
Each gym will comprise a range of equipment from Life Fitness, Cybex and SCIFIT; brands that form part of the global Life Fitness portfolio which offers the most comprehensive selection of cardio, strength and group exercise equipment in the industry.
“The health and wellbeing of our residents is of paramount importance, and the gyms form a huge part of our commitment to this and a real USP for our retirement villages,” confirms Laura Hoskin, Operations Project Co-ordinator at Richmond Villages.
“Many of our residents feel intimidated in a traditional gym environment, but in our facilities they’re exercising alongside users of a similar age, with similar challenges and goals, and on equipment that has been carefully selected to best meet their requirements. This makes them feel much more comfortable and encouraged to use the gym to stay active.”
Residents are supported by the Village’s dedicated gym staff, all of whom are specially trained in working with the user demographic. The gyms can also be accessed by individuals as part of the GP Referral Scheme, as well as a restricted number of paid-for memberships.
Richmond Aston-on-Trent is the latest village to launch, welcoming its first residents last month. The onsite gym comprises Cybex cardio equipment including upright and recumbent bikes and treadmills, and strength equipment from Life Fitness’ Circuit Series.
Popular with those new to strength training, the Circuit Series offers the lowest starting resistance levels of any Life Fitness range and uses the Lifeband Resistance System to ensure a smooth and consistent resistance profile, regardless of speed of movement. This is managed by push-button controls instead of the more traditional pin systems, so users can change the resistance quickly and easily during exercise.
The Richmond Aston-on-Trent gym is also home to equipment from SCIFIT, specialists in inclusive fitness equipment for rehabilitation and active ageing. Residents can use the PRO2®, a total body machine that permits exercisers to engage the upper and lower body independently or simultaneously, and a recumbent bike with removable seat, facilitating direct access for wheelchair users.
For every Richmond Village gym, each piece of equipment is carefully considered, as Laura explains: “We’ve worked with our Spa Managers and residents to determine what we want to get out of each gym, and Sam, our Life Fitness account manager, has been fantastic in delivering to our requirements.
“The advice and experience that Life Fitness offers is such that we know that every piece of equipment will support our residents in achieving their personal health and wellbeing goals, and the feedback from gym users and staff alike has been very positive.”
Sam Barlow, account manager for Life Fitness UK, said: “Richmond Villages’ gyms cater for users with a wide range of abilities and goals, and the equipment provision needs to reflect this. Our range of brands means we can select the right equipment best suited to our customers’ needs from the biggest range of equipment in the industry – something that no other supplier can do – and to see the positive difference that the gyms are having on the residents is very encouraging.”
