April 14, 2016 - Life Fitness has announced that it has been selected to provide a brand new fitness suite to luxury country house hotel Douneside House, situated in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, as part of a £5 million renovation and refurbishment programme.

The installation of the fitness suite represents an investment of £50,000 and takes place this month. Life Fitness will supply a comprehensive selection of equipment including the Elevation Series Discover SE™ Treadmill, Elliptical Cross-Trainer with Discover SE, FlexStrider Variable-Stride Trainer, Integrity™ Series PowerMill Climber and Lifecycle GX™ Group Exercise Bike.  Complementing the cardiovascular products is a selection of Insignia Series selectorised strength equipment which combines a strikingly modern design and excellent biomechanics.

Douneside House officially re-opens in June 2016 and will boast significantly enhanced leisure facilities.  In addition to the new fitness suite, guests will have access to a 12.5 m swimming pool, tennis court, fitness studio and jacuzzi along with steam and sauna rooms.

Douneside House was originally the home of Sir Alexander MacRobert Bart. (1854-1922), and his wife Rachel, Lady MacRobert (1884-1954).  Compounding the loss of her husband in 1922, Lady Mac Robert lost all three of her pilot sons between 1938-1941. Following the death of Sir Iain, the youngest of the three brothers, Lady MacRobert set up the MacRobert Trust, which now owns Douneside House.  Up until its closure for refurbishment in December 2014, Douneside House offered subsidised holiday accommodation exclusively to members of the Armed Forces. Upon re-opening in June 2016, Douneside will be open to the public who will be able to stay, dine and wed at Douneside for the first time.

A six week summer period and one week of Christmas will be retained exclusively for military guest use.   All business profits from the newly refurbished Douneside House will be donated to a number of charities through the MacRobert Trust’s grant giving programme.

Fiona Cresswell, Account Manager for Scotland, Life Fitness, said: “We’re thrilled that Life Fitness has played such an integral part in the renovation and refurbishment of Douneside House.  The new fitness suite has been tailored to meet the needs of guests and we have maximised the floor space with equipment that offers multi-use, space saving capabilities.  Our technologically advanced fitness equipment will provide a stylish addition to the hotel and give the best possible exercise experience to guests.”

Marcel Wassen, General Manager of Douneside House, explains: “This is a very exciting time for The MacRobert Trust and Douneside House as we are now well into the final stages of the renovation project and the changes are really starting to take shape.  We’re confident Douneside House will become one of Scotland’s leading luxury small hotels as well as being an excellent facility for the local community.

“The property incorporates the rich history of the Trust’s founders and it was important that the new-look facilities reflected the high quality associated with Douneside House.  Life Fitness provided exactly what we required – equipment that combines advanced technology and entertainment solutions with durable, reliable equipment – along with a service that is second to none.”
