SCHILLER PARK, Ill., Dec 17, 2009 – Royal Caribbean International has introduced the Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise ship to ever set sail. With 2,700 staterooms, 16 passenger decks, 24 elevators, 21 swimming pools and whirlpools, and a plethora of entertainment and dining options, this ground-breaking vessel weighs 225,282 gross registered tons. Oasis of the Seas presents guests with many at-sea "firsts," such as an open-air Central Park, an AquaTheatre with spectacular high diving performances, a carousel on the Boardwalk and much more.

So when it came to the 11,400-square-foot fitness center on board for guests, and the 2,600-square-foot fitness center for crew members, the designers knew they needed to go above and beyond to reflect the innovative and ground-breaking features for which the Oasis would be known. With a maximum capacity of 5,400 passengers and 2,100 crew members, the Oasis' exercise equipment would have to accommodate a variety of exercisers' ages and abilities, and heavy usage. To this end, Royal Caribbean chose to partner with Life Fitness to outfit the entire facility with the most dependable and aesthetically pleasing exercise machines in the world.

"Fitness is becoming an integral part of the cruise experience, so we needed to build a facility that would impress our guests," said Joe Schlipman, director, onboard revenue, Royal Caribbean International. "Life Fitness offered products that were durable, fit for heavy usage and innovative. With their support, we selected state-of-the-art Elevation Series Treadmills, Elliptical Cross-Trainers and Lifecycle Exercise Bikes, elliptical cross-trainers and Lifecycle exercise bikes, exactly the type of high-end, durable, fitness equipment our guests expect from us."

Royal Caribbean installed 30 Life Fitness Elevation Series Treadmills, 18 Elliptical Cross-Trainers and 11 Lifecycle Exercise Bikes in the Oasis of the Seas' passenger fitness center. The equipment features many industry firsts, such as touch-screen technology, iPod connectivity, an on-console Virtual Trainer and Nike+ iPod compatibility, enabling users to make their workout more engaging and matching the extraordinary features of the ship.

"We look forward to continuing our relationship with Royal Caribbean International and being part of the world's largest cruise ship," said John Stransky, president of Life Fitness. "The Elevation Series equipment will offer the same innovative qualities that reflect the overall theme of the vessel. It's satisfying to know that this equipment is helping thousands of people aboard the ship achieve healthier lives."

Other passenger attractions include an ice rink, the Rising Tide Bar, a bar that rises between decks, an H20 Zone water theme park, a full-size carousel, and the Royal Promenade that features bars, restaurants and cafes.
